If you’re thinking, ‘I want all the moments captured from the maternity session to the newborn details, but I have no idea what my options are, what’s included or what the cost will be’, then this post is for you! Almost every first time expecting mama feels a little in the dark when it comes to maternity and newborn session packages. But, I’m here to walk you through it.

Thinking back to when I was a newly pregnant, I knew right away that I wanted to have both my maternity and newborn session photographed. At the time, I didn’t fully realize just how quickly those seasons would pass or how much I would treasure having photographs to look back on. Now, as a photographer, I love being able to help other mamas preserve those fleeting moments, too. And because I know there can be a lot to figure out when you’re expecting a baby, I want to make the process as simple as possible. So, let’s talk about what’s included in a maternity and newborn bundle, how it works, and why booking both sessions together might be the perfect fit for your growing family.

What Do You Actually Get in a Maternity and Newborn Bundle?

  • A full 45 minute maternity session at a location of your choice

  • A full 1.5 hour newborn session in the comfort of your own home

  • An online gallery of 50+ high resolution digital files from each session with print rights

  • A wardrobe guide with 10 complete looks with links to purchase online…so helpful when you’re considering the perfect outfits for your newborn session

  • A discount is applied to the entire package when you book the ‘bump to baby’ package! It saves you money to book your maternity and newborn photo session together.

For many years I never offered a bump to baby package. It’s been such a great thing to offer to my clients that I really wish I would have started offering this service sooner!

Why Booking Both Sessions Together Just Makes Sense

Practically speaking, one of the benefits of booking both sessions together is that you get a chance to meet your photographer at your maternity session and get to know them before the actual newborn session. It’s super nice to ‘break the ice’ with your photographer at your maternity session and then welcome them to your home for your newborn session. It’s like having a friend come over! Another big win is that your photos from your maternity and newborn session will be consistent with your photographer’s aesthetic. There’s nothing like doing a gallery wall and having mismatched styles. Booking the same photographer for both maternity and newborn session ensures consistent results. Lastly, booking a maternity and newborn photo bundle takes one less thing off your plate! Just book once and get two sessions on the books. One thing you want to avoid is assuming that you can just ‘figure out newborn photos later’. Photographer’s schedules book up and if you have someone in mind, it’s best to reach out as soon as possible. Here’s a helpful post on ‘When to schedule your newborn photos’.

How Does the Booking Process Actually Work?

Once you inquire with me, I’ll check my availability and send over my full pricing guide. If everything looks good, I’ll send you a contract and a link to pay your deposit. The payment is broken into thirds, with the first payment being the deposit, due at time of booking. The installments are broken up over a period of time.

After booking with me, I’ll send you my client questionnaire so that I can get some more information about you and your family and what your vision is for your session. I love getting to know my clients. Next, comes the client wardrobe guide. I love this thing! It has 10 different looks with shoppable links. I find it so helpful to see outfits for mom, dad, baby and siblings laid out together. I’m happy for you to send me any of your wardrobe ideas at any point!

A week before our session, I’ll reach out and make sure we’re all good to go. This is the time that I will confirm our location, and make sure we are all set. Don’t worry, I’ll keep an eye on the weather, too! You’ll get another email from me the day before our session with a weather update. Because we live in South Fl, the weather could turn on a dime. I typically don’t make the call ‘till about noon the day of. For newborn sessions, I’ll send over some last minute tips on how to have a smooth session.

What happens at a maternity vs. newborn session?

  • Maternity session - We choose a location of your choice (here’s a blog post with my top South Florida locations). If you are a brand new mama, then your session will be just you and your husband…and your fur baby if you so choose! We will shoot for about 45 minutes. Posing is easy, effortless and fun. If this isn’t your first child, and you have a family, everyone is included! These sessions tend to be a little more ‘upbeat’ as kids just bring that energy naturally. Sessions with kids are fun and playful. I always carve out time to photograph just mom, just mom and dad, the whole fam, and of course mom with the kiddos too, if applicable.

  • Newborn sessions - These are different, being that I come to you. Sessions are held in the comfort of you home and last about 1.5 hours. This blog post goes into detail about ‘How long the newborn photo session will take’. If it’s your first child, then your session will be a bit more laid back than if you had other kids. Like I mentioned before, kids bring a higher energy level to sessions, which is wonderful, I love it.

If you’re expecting and considering maternity and newborn photos in South Florida, I’d love to help you preserve these sweet, fleeting moments. The newborn days go by in a blink, and there’s something so special about having photographs that bring you right back to how it all felt.
