Jupiter Family Photographer

Are you looking for a Jupiter Family photographer that can tame your wild kids? When Olivia reached out to me, she explained that she had never had family photos before, but wanted to make sure that I was up for the challenge “Can you tame a lion? That’s essentially what my family is”.

I’m a boy mom. I get it! My boys are rambunctious and sometimes I wonder if the oldest has too much energy. And my youngest gets into the kitchen cabinets, pulls things out. No surface is safe from his little chubby fingers! I essentially tame “lions” all day long!

Yes, mama, the lion can be tamed! Even if you have a wild family, you can still get amazing family portraits.

How I make photo sessions fun for kids

I always tell my clients to do their part: bring snacks and water. And I’ll do my part. I tend to avoid the cookie-cutter approach when it comes to photographing families. Most of the images I capture at sessions are action shots prompted and playful to keep the kids engaged. I know that once I lose a child, it’s oftentimes hard to get them interested again. Having sessions that are “child-led” are key. It’s never ok to force a child to behave a certain way if they are having an off day or is fearful of the camera. Incorporating play into the sessions is so important to me!

What if your kid won’t sit still for a photo?

If there’s one thing that I have learned about photographing families it’s this: you must work fast! Kids are ACTIVE. You must keep those kiddos engaged, and happy!

My sessions are usually an hour long. But during this session, we only had 45 minutes.

(Thanks, Florida thunderstorms)

In the 45 minutes of beautiful weather that we had, we were able to capture some of my favorite images ever. I photographed these with a mix of film and digital.

My favorite image: the one where everyone is holding hands, big sister is leaning in to kiss her little sister on the cheek. Simply precious. And, timed perfectly as I captured that image on film! Win!! Win!!

My #1 suggestion for parents. Being flexible and patient is so important. At sessions, I’m not going for cookie-cutter images. My goal is to capture the joy and connection that you have as a family.
