Distracting Yourself Away From Distraction

Distraction. We all deal with it and it has got to be one of the worst goal killer and time stealer! It has steared me as far as the couch and has lead me down the rabbit trails of the internet only to leave me tired and lost. Once you start to go down that road, it only gets worse. You become more lazy, more sullen and more distracted.

Most recently, I realized that I felt overwhelmed with tasks. I felt myself starting to veer off course! AAAhhh!!   I knew that I was headed down a slippery slope. When you are feeling overwhelmed, I feel like that is the time when you will be most tempted to become distracted. Anything to take your mind off of your goals. I had to stop and ask myself: where am I going and how did I get off track? It was important that I get back on track quick. I talked with my husband and reached out to others who I knew would keep me accountable. Staying focused can be a battle, especially in a world with plenty of distractions. Oh wait, that Law and Order marathon is on!

So how do you stay on track? Sometimes it's hard to see through your jumbled up "to do" list when it is simply floating around in your mind. Take it off of your mind and put in on paper. As one of my mentors would say, write it all down. Start somewhere. Anywhere. I love what Michael Hyatt had said on this matter, "Make a calendar of your ideal week". What do you want your week to look like and what do you want to accomplish? Assign goals to accomplish each day. Once you have done that, turn OFF the distractions. Put your phone on "do not disturb" mode, turn your email notifications off and for goodness sake, do not get on social media!

Here's to staying focused!
